Wim De Prez (Aalst 1962) is an artist based in Deurle-(Sint-Martens-Latem), known for his unique, colourful and often ironic style. In his paintings and sculptures, he questions the ideal of beauty and draws connections between art and science. To bring his sculptures to life, he uses modern technology (3D software, 3D printers, etc). He also dedicates much of his time to custom-made projects in the form of sculptures, paintings and everything in between. He graduated as an engineer and after his experience in industry, decided to devote himself exclusively to his creativity. This journey began with special painting techniques and evolved into commissioned art in the form of trompe-l'œil murals. In 2008, Wim De Prez presented his distinctive works at his first exhibition. It was an assault on the senses through his vibrant, living art. In 2010, he took the next step. He brought his two-dimensional images to life in colourful sculptures. The sculptures are imaginary creatures that sometimes resemble birds or other animals. The work of Wim de Prez questions the ideal of beauty imposed upon us. What is beauty? In more recent work, the artist draws connections between art and science. Today he experiments with forms from industry and architecture.
